Image showing the quad in its retail display box

The Quad comes in a lovely retail display box

When asked if I would be willing to review BDSM impact play toys I usually just adopt “the position”. I love floggers, whips and paddles.

I relish the feeling of them striking my behind or in fact using them myself on my submissive sub’r’. Impact play often means restraints and even blindfolds. As such, it relies on trust between parties to ensure that play is safe and consensual. The mind games behind impact play can lead to incredibly deep and erotic sessions that leave you drained yet satisfied.

So needless to say when latex, Leather & Lace asked me if I would be interested in reviewing the Quad Silicone Whip from the Doc Johnson Kink Collection, I jumped at the chance.

Even after a warning that it is a pretty intense piece of equipment, I jumped at the chance. I mean, who wouldn’t relish the thought of a new whip to play with? So let me give you my thoughts on the Quad from Doc Johnson.

Delivery

I love receiving sex toys from Latex, Leather and lace and I can always rest assured that once I place an order with them, it will be dispatched quickly and above all discreetly.

Everything that has arrived from them has always been well packaged and very discreet. Considering how many sex toys I receive in the post, I rely on discreet packaging.

Packaging

The product packaging for the Quad from Doc Johnson looks impressive. The dark colours compliment this range of sex toys very well indeed. I love the fact that you can actually see the Quad inside the box.

I like product packaging that allows you to see the product inside. When browsing for things in a brick and mortar store like the fantastic Latex, Leather and Lace boutique I like to be able to see products to get an accurate representation of their size and colours.

The rear of the box carries some great product information and information about SSC play

The rear of the box carries a lot of product information as you would expect and it has the big bold words “GEAR YOU CAN TRUST BDSM EXPERTS”. Usually, a statement like that would make me laugh, but this product is a collaboration between Doc Johnson and the fantastic kink.com site and company.

Kink.com are renowned for their hardcore BDSM porn as well as mainstream porn, and the Kink range of products reflects their experience. Indeed it is nice to see positive messages about Safe, Sane and Consensual (SSC) play mentioned on the box.

Materials and Design

Upon opening the box though things really get interesting. A plastic former keeps the Quad straight and protects it in transit.

The silicone used on this whip really is very tactile. The Quad is a whip made entirely of body-safe hypoallergenic silicone. Silicone is my go to sex toy material due to its non-porous surface and the fact that it is latex and phthalate free. The black colour of this silicone is perfect for the dread that floggers and whips can emote within the mind of someone about to be flogged.

The Quad as its name suggests has four fronds that are incredibly painful

The blend of Silicone used in the Quad is really lovely, it is velvety smooth and not too draggy. It does, however, have enough drag so that as it hits, you really feel each strand. The handle feels solid in your hand, yet the fronds are incredibly supple.

This is the first all silicone flogger that I have used. I have reviewed a Silicone Paddle called the Buch Dich (German for bend over). I had high expectations for the Quad as the Buch Dich is my favourite paddle by far.

When you think about it, silicone is a great material to use in a flogger. It is soft, durable, easy to clean and very low maintenance. A moulded one-piece product like the Quad also has the benefit of being insertable for penetrative play where the benefits of silicone can really come into play.

Image showing the handle design, it is definitely designed for insertion

The quad measures in at 18″/45.7cm in length. The handle is insertable and as such it has an insertable length of 5.5″/14cm, a girth of 5″/12.7cm and a diameter of 1.5″/3.8cm.

The tapered tip on the handle aids insertion. It has three raised ridges to give added stimulation if it is inserted or to help with grip if swinging it. There is a mould seam line along the sides of the handle, but this doesn’t impinge on its functionality in any way.

The Quad is a flogger-style whip featuring four thick silicone strands. The tip of each strand carries a much heavier weighted bulbous tip almost tear drop in shape. It is this added weight at the tip that gives the Quad its bite.

The weighted tips mean that every impact delivers delightful pain

The pain that this flogger can deliver is considerable, and it makes it an incredibly versatile impact play toy.

Performance.

When I first showed the Quad to my submissive sub’r’, she laughed at its relatively short length and at it only having four strands.

She loves to name impact toys, and she quickly came up with the nickname “Squidward” after the Spongebob Squarepants character.

However, after her first session tied to a cross and on the receiving end of the Quad she quickly renamed it “Squidward the bastard”. I can totally understand that as this is a flogger/whip with a sting in its tail.

The fact that it only has four strands leads you into a false sense of security. When they fall on your skin the sensations that they deliver are positively delightful in a painful way. The silicone gives no quarter and unlike suede or even leather floggers to an extent, you get no massaging effect as the fronds dance across your skin. All you feel in the thuddy impacts of each weighted bulbous tip and this takes your breath away.

The four fronds are very flexible and in use it feels like there are many more

The weighty end hits with some force and concentrates their energy on a small area. This gives each tip a big bite for such a short flogger.

Swinging it is easy and comfortable, but the four fronds seem to have a mind of their own. It is easy to deliver accurate single strokes. But as soon as you start to set up a rhythm, the fronds go everywhere. This is not a bad thing as it means whoever is on the receiving end cannot predict where they will fall.

I do like to create crisp neat marks when playing with whips and floggers and the Quad confounds me at every attempt to create neat lines on the backside of sub’r’. The area just gets redder and redder and each blow gets even more painful than the last.

The fronds deliver crips and painful bites with every stroke. Even if swung gently, it is still capable of some fantastic sensations. It is easy to imagine safe words being used if it is swung hard. On the buttocks the pain is delightful but on the back of the thighs, it is enough to bring tears to your eyes.

At the end of her first flogging with the Quad, I decided to treat sub’r’ to some fun and. She was naked and still strapped to a spanking cross. So I simply pressed the tip of the handle against her pussy lips and slowly pushed the handle deep inside her.

The tapered tip makes insertion easy and the girth makes accommodating it in any orifice an easy task

As you can imagine the combination of her bright red bum still stinging from its flogging and the pleasure of the handle penetrating her did the trick. Two or three thrusts and an orgasm ripped through her body. I just chuckled into her ear and called her a “naughty girl” for squirting on the floor.

Having used it many times now, I can attest to how good it is. The Quad is a fantastic flogger/whip. It can deliver some great targeted sensations as well as being a heck of a lot of fun to thrust with vaginally.

The ridges on the handle make thrusting with it so much fun. This is an excellent way to end a hard flogging session. Cleaning it afterwards is easy. Just wash it with warm soapy water. Then ensure it is dry before storing it away until your next impact play session.

The sounds of the fronds landing on flesh are totally different from other impact toys. It doesn’t swish, but it delivers deep thuddy sounds as the fronds land, followed by squeals and yelps from the receiver of its administrations. This lack of an audible swish helps to keep your submissive guessing and there is no tensing up prior to impact as you don’t hear the strikes coming.

Conclusion

The Quad from Kink.com and Doc Johnson is a fantastic take on the flogger. The use of silicone is genius, and it makes for a flogger that is small in form but delivers some devilishly harsh impacts. It is ideal if you enjoy the harder end of the impact spectrum. The thuds delivered by the tips can be very painful and it can easily make any backside red in no time at all.

Having the handle designed for penetrative play is a bonus, and it is a convenient shape for thrusting. Silicone is a fantastic material. It is so nice to see it being used in an impact toy of this pedigree.

I have no hesitation in giving the Quad a huge thumbs up and a solid recommendation. Go on give “Squidward the Bastard” a try.
